4.Early in the year , I learned the importance of music incorporation in films. In my first films you can see that I did not really use music in a way that made the videos interesting or that evoked emotion. In my cyberbullying video the music was only used for the introduction of the video with pictures and faded once the video started.  Something else I learned from another project was how to story build. In my values project called "classroom lovin'" that included me,Jessica, Cristabel, and Damon, I wrote a script that my group liked. The story was about a boy who likes a girl and he does not know how to show his true emotions towards her. I wanteed to present the idea that its okay to express how you feel and to have courage. My most recent projects, which were a collaboration with my partner Hayley,"The Water is Wide" and "the Jabberwocky" really shows how much I have learned in the process of how to evoke emotion. In these videos it was important to evoke emotion through pictures. For "The Water is Wide" we had to come up with a story and evoke it by using abstract images and music. This helped me with my editing skills because most of the pictures we got were recognozible so in order to make them abstract we had to go and use some editing tools. The music was pre picked and it was fun coming up with a situation to go with what you hear. Also with "The Jabberwocky" which was also a video that depended on pictures, also the pictures altered. The images had to match with the words being said which was hard because most of the vocabulary was made up.

5.Overall, this class taught me how to consider new ideas when it comes to filming. I was able to learn things from my fellow classmates. When editing, it was always important to consider everyones ideas and somehow incorporate those ideas in the work. I realized that the people you work with really depends on the quality of the video. You want to work with people who take things seriously and who focus on getting things done. Something else I learned was how to manage work time. This class is good with deadlines and making sure that the work is turned in when specified.

6.This class really got me close with my classmates. You feel welcomed by everyone and it was really nice coming to this class first thing in the morning. I will miss all the unique people I had the opportunity to meet. They made this class what it is. I would like to thank Dr. Achterman for always being supportive towards his students.

Effects Sandbox #2

Efects Sandbox

Give directions about how to find the effect (what is it called? What FOLDER is it in?)
Explain how to change the settings to get the effect you're showing.
Give us an idea about how you might use it in a film.

Reflection on Video Comments

This post is by Elissa Abonce and Damon Perez.
The positive comments that were most meaningful to us were from Zach and Alicia. Zach told us that he liked our storyline, and that was helpful because it gave us some confidence that our story is meaningful. In addition, Alicia told us that she especially liked the shot of "Damon daydreaming while looking in Damaris's direction, it is really cute and adds to the feeling that he likes her", and that helped us see that our video does give off emotion.
The two best suggestions we got were from Luis and Alicia.
Luis suggested that we use music to make a greater impact on the viewers. Also, to use clean transitions and cuts.We agree with this suggestion, and our plan to address it is to add music that we choose into the video and we are planning on adding missing clips which will make the transitions clean.

Alicia suggested that we add music to the part when Damon is daydreaming because it would really add to the mood of Damon liking Damaris. We agree with this suggestion, and our plan to address it is to add music to our video. We couldn:t really find music that goes with that scene but we are going to add music.

Rough Draft-Values Project

1) The value our video is trying to present is honesty and courage.
2) I think our group has been doing a good job of working together and filming. Our communication is really good and tasks are given for each member of the group.
3) Our group still needs to complete our titles and credits. We found music but now we just have to incorporate it into the video. We need to edit more of our clips in order for the video to flow well.
4) We want to know if the clips make sense and what we could do in order to make our value more evident.
5) My group filmed over two days and it was successful. The first day we got most of our video filmed but on the second day we encountered problems with the camera which caused delay in filming.

Over the Shoulder

Describe how your group planned your shots. What realizations did you make about the kind of planning that needs to happen BEFORE you shoot? Our group had to use someone elses video because our video got shot over. It is really important to make sure the camera is placed in a proper place. Make sure that the surrounding stays consistent.

Look at the composition of your over the shoulder shots. Did you follow the rule of thirds? Why or why not?The video we used seemed to follow the rule of thirds very well. The girls were the main focus in the whole scene.

What IMPRESSIONS do the over the shoulder shots create about the characters? How does this work? The over the shoulder shots helped the viewers catch the emotion of the actors. It gives the impression of main

How realistic does the dialogue seem in the final edit? What challenges did you have in editing?

Is there a dominant mood or tone to your video? What is that mood or tone? How did you accomplish this?

What other observations do you have about using over the shoulder shots?

What other ideas got emphasized or reinforced about how to make effective videos from doing this exercise?
